Cross the Moon - PS5 Platinum Review

Cross the Moon is a vampire-themed visual novel with a Platinum trophy available in under 5 minutes.

The game is a fairly standard visual novel with settings to increase the text speed. You can skip through the dialogue by pressing the R1 button and there are no dialogue choices to make and only one outcome for the story. For the Platinum trophy, you just need to reach the end of the story and and press Circle each time the auto-skip comes to a stop to unlock Claire's Journal trophies.

I must be honest, I didn't really have any interest in the story and don't know much about it besides it's vampire themed and is told through the eyes of three protagonists, I only bought the game because it was a cheap and quick Platinum. If you're like me, it's definitely worth looking into for the trophies. There may of course be plenty of people who are interested in reading through the story but unfortunately I can't give any ideas as to how good it is or what the story entails as I skipped it entirely.

The game features plenty of real photos which are used as backgrounds in a lot of the scenes which bring it more to life than some other visual novels and has a nice soundtrack and some interesting artwork, especially when the trophies pop as you'll see below.

Overview

  • Release Date: 18th June, 2021
  • Publisher: Ratalaika Games SL
  • Developer: Patrick Rainville
  • Date Started: 23rd August, 2021
  • Date Completed: 23rd August, 2021
  • Version Played: Digital
  • Price: £2.99 (PS4 & PS5 Bundle)

The Good

  • Quick to Platinum.
  • No combat or dialogue choices, it's essentially just a single route story to read or skip.
  • Lots of interesting artwork to view and over 100,000 words of dialogue.
  • The PS4 and PS5 versions are bundled together offering two Platinums for one low price.

The Bad

  • Because it's a single playthrough Platinum with no dialogue choices, I personally felt no obligation to read any of it and skipped the whole story.
  • If you don't press Circle when the auto-skip ends, and press R1 to continue skipping for example, some of the trophies will not pop which may require you to start the playthrough again.

Hardest Trophy

  • Claire's Journal Volume VIII - Discovered Claire's Journal Volume VIII.

All of the trophies are the same difficulty really. The main difference is that Claire's Journal trophies only pop if you press Circle when the auto-skip stops. The moon based trophies will automatically unlock as you skip through the story, so these ones can be missable if you forget to press Circle and continue skipping instead and will require another playthrough.

Helpful Tips / Bugs / Glitches / Exploits

Change the settings to the following to get through the story as quickly as possible. Once you start the game just press R1 to skip through and whenever the auto-skip stops, press Circle to unlock the Claire's Journal trophies.

Platinum Difficulty Rating - 1/10

1/10

There's absolutely no difficulty in the game. Just get to the end of the story, which you can do by skipping all of the dialogue completely.

Platinum Time - 5 Mins

If you skip through the story and press Circle when required you'll get the Platinum in a single playthrough in under 5 minutes.

Platinum Enjoyment Rating - 10/10

10/10
Given I barely had to do anything besides watch the text and backgrounds flash past my eyes, I can't say there was much not to enjoy about the journey to the Platinum.

Overall Game Rating - 7/10

7/10
It's a bit harsh to drop the rating down to a 7 but I just had no interest in paying any attention to the story and therefore just wanted to get the game completed as quickly as possible. It's nicely designed and I'm sure there's an enjoyable story in there if you're interested in reading it but I'd say unless you're doing it for the trophies, I'm not sure if this is a game many people would buy.
