Sakura Swim Club - PS5 Platinum Review

If you've played or seen any of Winged Cloud's other visual novels such as Sakura Succubus, you'll probably know what to expect. Essentially it's a romance story following a guy with multiple love interests and features hentai artwork of girls with giant breasts and almost no clothes. For trophy hunters, the game is a dream as all of the text can be skipped and there's not too many dialogue choices so the Platinum can be unlocked in around 3 minutes.

Story wise, you'll follow Kaede, a young man who has just moved to a new school and discovers they have a swimming club which isn't doing particularly well. Two girls, Hiromi and Mieko are currently involved and initially don't see eye to eye with Kaede, but as things progress and the club starts to see improvements, he eventually becomes more appealing to them and they begin to compete for his affections.

The game features a variety of settings you can change to increase the speed of the text or to allow you to skip to important choices by pressing R1 while you're reading through it. There are a number of dialogue choices you'll need to make throughout the story but  the correct choices are listed below.

The Good

• The PS4 and PS5 version are bundled together meaning two Platinum trophies are available.
• If you want to fast forward through the story, the Platinum can be yours in around 3 minutes!
• The background artwork is nicely designed and helps set the mood for each scene.
• Plenty of different character and outfit images to view and unlock in the gallery.
• Probably the most lewd visual novel by Winged Cloud on PlayStation so far (if that's your thing).

The Bad

• The story isn't particularly engaging and doesn't really have too many surprises, you can sort of guess what's going to happen if you've read or seen Winged Cloud's other visual novels.
• It mostly just feels like the story is there as a reason to show off the explicit hentai artwork.
• The price is a bit high at £7.99. I think there'd be more buyers if it was closer to £5.

Platinum Time - 3 Minutes

Skipping the story and quickly choosing the dialogue options I mentioned in the helpful tips section above will allow you to unlock the Platinum in around 3 minutes. I personally managed to grab the Platinum in 2 minutes 53 seconds. Playing through and reading the story properly will obviously depend on your reading speed, but it should take somewhere around 2-4 hours.

Platinum Enjoyment Rating - 10/10

Another incredibly easy Platinum trophy (or two of them if you include the PS4 and PS5 version). There aren't many dialogue choices and it's smooth to get through in a single run for the Platinum with a guide.

Overall Game Rating - 7/10

Although the game is probably the most lewd visual novel on PlayStation so far, I'm not convinced it needed to be so graphic. It feels a bit like the artwork existed first and they needed to put a story together so they could show it all off. That said, the story isn't too bad and the Platinum trophy (which is what most people will buy this for) is quick and easy so I can't complain too much.
